Southern Nationals 2000

Trip dates: September 1-3, 2000
Round trip distance: I haven't the foggiest idea
Tournaments: Southern Nationals 2000
Courses played Chickasaw, Chickasabogue, Cottage Hill, Langham/Municipal

Todd didn't go with us on this one, just me and Ryan and his dinky little red car.  We got down Thursday night and on Friday played Cottage Hill, Municipal, and Chickasaw which didn't do us a heckuva lot of good because we played the long tees at Cottage Hill and Municipal but the tournament didn't. Ahem.

So we played four courses, three of which were easy to the point of boredom (Cottage Hill was ok, even from the shorter tees). Which made my lousy scores all the more depressing.  Ryan shot ok, finished 6th or so I think (I'd check but I can't find the results on the net anywhere).  Cam was winning the whole way, was up by 7 shots after Saturday but Worm shot a pair of -14's on Sunday to pull within 1 shot after 4 rounds.  They played a 6 hole safari final then and on the last hole Cam went OB and Worm won by a shot.  I wasn't impressed by the holes they used, 3 of which I thought were terrible, but if someone else was going to win besides Cam I'm glad it was Worm.

Chim Chim (who's a local Wills guy, in case you're wondering) went down with Jesse and won the distance (510 feet, I think) and ended up 7th overall which qualified him for US Championships, which is cool as hell (that's my Bob Costas impression, never let the data or person or performance speak for itself, always make sure you tell the watcher exactly how they're supposed to feel, as if they were too stupid to figure it out on their own).  I barely missed qualifying, finishing something like nine thousandth place.

Lesli won the womens division, I think (which means I can't imagine her not but I never actually saw the board and I went out and threw during most of the awards ceremony [because I despise awards ceremonies...]).  We actually had a good am turnout from Georgia but I'm not sure how they all finished (does that mean I've become pro-centric lately?).  I think Cathy Dammes finished well and won some plastic, as did Mike I'm sure. Hmm, I really wish they'd post the results.

And, in closing...  dude.  I was 1 over for the tournament going into the last hole which is about 100 feet long so I threw a little forehand with my pink MrX up there and we heard the soft tinkle of chains.  Ahh, an ace to go 1 under.  Very nice.  Except it made its way through the chains and on down the hill and I didn't even have a birdie putt.  *sigh*  That was my second double dot on Sunday and I didn't get a dime from anyone in my group.  What, oh what is wrong with the world these days?

I did get to play with Johnny McCray and Ben Gurthie during the second round, which was a lot of fun.  Johnny shot a -14 and Ben shot like a -8 and I was like two hundred over par so I didn't get to play with them after that round, but Johnny got an Ace and barely missed two others and me and Ben almost birdied the 700 foot hole (or however long it is, I have no idea, probably shorter than that, maybe something in the 210 foot range like every other hole in Mobile) and, well, the Gurthies may be coming to Augusta, which would be most heinously cool.
