South Eastern Classic 2000

Trip dates: June 29-July 2, 2000
Round trip distance: I am in a complete state of not knowing this number
Tournaments: SEC 2000
Courses played: Winthrop University Gold, Renaissance Park

Here's what I figure:  if I start this right now and then don't finish it (which I won't, because I'm miserable, because it's eighteen billion degrees in here) then I'll feel compelled to finish it up when the air conditioner gets fixed in a few hours.

We'll see, I guess...

It worked.  I mean, according to the thermostat it's still almost 90 in here, but it's a lot better and I've got a fan blowing directly on me (hey, bring on the colds) and it's much nicer.

The tournament was pretty cool, it had by far the biggest payout I've ever seen for an amateur tournament (which has caused no end of debate on the pdga message board), but I thought it was ok.   The courses were tough as hell for everyone, renaissance shredded the field saturday and I guess everyone was looking forward to the much cleaner and briar-free course at Winthrop for Sunday...  I certainly was (in fact, I snuck in [with the TD's permission, I should add] and played the Sunday morning round on Winthrop Gold).  Winthrop shredded the field, too.  There was only one round in the 50's, which was Super Dave's 59 (although I think he followed that with something like a 57 on the far, far easier Lakefront-minus course they played in the afternoon) and the sky was pretty much the limit for the highest.

So after the second round Forrest is throwing his whole damn bag across the lake and a few others are trying (and mainly failing) we find out there was a 3-way tie for 10th, so they had a sudden death playoff with the winner taking home a basket.  You'd think I'd remember who was involved, but I don't. The first two guys hit trees and the third guy parked it and hit his 20 footer.  Clutch.  Very cool.

I learned that it's not a lot of fun to go to a tournament and not play...

I really thought Billy Crump did a nice job bringing this together with very little advance notice.  Expect great things next year.
