Melbourne. As if you didn't know.
I spent a month trying to convince people to go down with me, finally got Ryan to go and then all of a sudden Todd can go, too. My main reason for going was to try to qualify for the US Championships and I came close, only missing the qualifying line by 50 places or so. A real nailbiter. Ryan did qualify, though, as did Jesse Hulen who finished tied for 5th and brought home some nice cash. Evan Gurthie tore it up for 3 rounds and was in the lead group for the last round. I believe Evan is 13 years old. Jinkes.
What, then, what? Kenny won, as always, there was beautiful weather, as always. We had barbecue lunch on Sunday, we had that nifty Worlds style format that I believe they always do in Melbourne (2 separate pools on one course, so there are actually 4 rounds played per day) which meant a nice, long break between rounds. Cam had some problems the first couple rounds, but came through with the best round of the tournament to finish 7th.
It was hot as hell (although what, really, should I expect in Florida? Hmm?), but there was shade to be had if you knew where to look. I, being an experienced shade golfer, had no trouble.
Anyway, we had some decent seafood (although our quest for that kick-ass seafood dive has still not been fulfilled), played some fun golf, beat Ben Gurthie in 21, and generally had a damn good time.
