Fire Ant 2000

Trip dates: May 20-21, 2000
Round trip distance: A hop, skip, and a jump (I feel like I've said that before... hmmm)
Tournaments: Fire Ant Regional Tournament Two
Courses played: Meriwether Ant Farm

Last year I didn't decide to go to this one until Friday afternoon, then had to go ask my mom to borrow her van so I could sleep in it, since I had no idea where to stay.  Didn't get there until 2 am or so and, come Saturday, I played like it.

I had no such excuses this year.  Shame, they would've been useful.

The pro division ran (uh-oh, vaguely journalistic phrase coming up) true to form, Scott Renz beat the hell out of everyone with his chain smoking, toxic gassing, twinkie eating (although I saw none in evidence this weekend) big brother finishing second. Chet Hemby finished 3rd for the Wills sweep (again, I believe).  I'll post results when I get 'em (in typically responsible fasion, I plan to steal them from the ADGO page).

Sorry Dave, I actually did plan to write 'em down and post 'em here for you, but I had a cooler full of cider and beer and, well, uhmm, I forgot.  But I saved a cider for you...

I think Tom Monroe won the Masters and Jo won Am-women.

Todd's bid for the mini-golf title fell short Saturday night as he was overwhelmed by Ryan's pair of aces on hole #2 and undermined by putting his own minis on the hotel roof (note plural of "mini"... he did it twice).  In a thrilling finish to the second round, Ryan beat Rand on the second playoff hole when Rand missed a 15 footer. Tch, tch, tch.

I successfully avoided the chili this year.  Wisdom pays off.

What else?  It was mostly locals, a few people from Alabama, Brian and Jolly from Charlotte, and a guy from way down south Florida.  Had a huge advanced field (45, I think) and a respectable 20 in open (not too bad considering there's only one course).  Almost all of which beat me, of course.  But what else is new?  I must've been saving my birdies for next week in Melbourne.

I have nothing else to say, which is a shame.  Oh, except that Mel should go play pro and realize that he likes it there.
