Manicured in Carolina
(Mileage 9400)
[Editor's note: The gold pen is apparently gone, or at least resting for the week.  This week's entry is in a lively, soft green...  in case you were wondering]

We made our long trip from Round Rock, Texas to Raleigh, North Carolina safely and found a great place to stay with Dave Mansfield, Brian "Mad Dog" McCree, and Brian Schweberger.  Everyone who has ever stayed there knows that they're good people.  The Dogwood Crosstown Classic was to be held at Zebulon and Cedar Hills, 2 rounds each.  Zebulon is a mostly wooded course with a few open holes.  We played 18 holes each round and I was impressed by Zebulon's manicured fairways, yes, even in the woods, thanks to Dave Mansfield.

It was obvious that zebulon was a local favorite, and deservingly so, with its multitude of shots, accuracy, and distance needed to score well.  Cedar Hills was a lot like Zebulon except that there were more wooded holes and a little more elevation. What made Cedar Hills really interesting was the fast greens and a few long holes through the woods that were really nice.  After the third round was over, it started to rain, sleet, lightning, and of course thunder as a storm raged over Cedar Hills; everyone headed for cover in their vehicles. With all the bad weather it made the judgment hard on Kirk Yoo as everyone hung out to see if we were even going to play the final round.  The skies cleared and everyone who made the cut was sent to their hole as the rain continued to drizzle.  Lightning crashed one more time and there was a loud bring it in sounded off around the course.  Were were sent back to our holes about 15 minutes later as nature let us begin our final round.

I got to play my final round with Stan McDaniel who shot a very nice 46 in the bad weather conditions to jump to 3rd place.  Barry Schultz was leading after the 3rd round, but had a tough time the last round as Larry Leonard made the move, shooting a 45 to win the tournament. Dave Feldberg had a good weekend and shot a 49 the last round and moved to a second place finish.

Special thanks to Dickie, Stan, and Jamie for a place to drop by and stay while in Atlanta on the way to Raleigh.  Thanks again to the guys at Innova as I picked up some sponsorship stuff in Rock Hill, and of course, thanks Lynx.  Oh, I almost forgot to thank 2 guys that are always willing to put us up while we are in Charlotte and are great hosts, Alan Wooten and Matt King.  Thanks to everyone!!!
