Bob West Memorial
Scottsdale, Arizona
March 2-4, 2001
(Mileage 4,708)

Well, well.  Tour's going well, played Bob West this weekend.  Played well, but not well enough.  Climo, Ron, Worm, and myself had an interesting battle all the way to the last round.  Climo had Worm and me by 2 strokes and we had Ron by 2 strokes, first hole Climo throws in the water while Ron, Worm, and I birdie.  Worm, Ken, and I are tied for the lead with Ron two behind.  Worm plays 1 stroke better than Ken and me for 5 holes, Worm throws in the water twice...  seeya lead.  Ken and I charge forward gaining the lead while Ron played steady.  Soon I charge forth taking total lead over Ron by 4 and Ken by 2, Worm by more with 8 holes left.  I decide to throw OB twice on 2 holes.  Easy holes.  The mistake was in not checking out the entire hole, anyway I take 2 4's while Ken and Ron birdie-birdie.  4 strokes gone.  Learned a lot about the aftermath of that.  Anyway, Climo and I bogey 2 holes later and Ron takes the lead.  He held steady as it came to the last hole with Ron by 1 over Ken and Ken by 1 over me.  Climo has a putt to tie Ron, but smacks the top of the basket and bounces away.  I take 3rd and Worm birdies to hold on to 5th.

We stayed in the company of Jim Garnett and Karen Borges, thank you very much Karen and Jim!  You guys showed immaculate hospitality, it is very much appreciated.

Something amazing happened on our way to this tournament.  We were stopped at the rest area taking a break, it was jammed full and there weren't any spaces so we had to park at the main entrance.  So this truck wanted to pass us, there was plenty of room so I said to come on through.  So since he has our attention we read the side of the truck as it passes us, it says, "PGA Tour -- Follow us to our next tournament."  Woah.  So I approached the truck taking pictures and the driver was concerned as he opens and closes his door, so I figure I need to go talk to him.  We pulled up and Worm (facing his side) was speechless, all he could say was, "Hey."  So I leaned over and asked if he was on the PGA tour, he says yes, I say, "We're on the PDGA tour."  He says, "What's that?"  So I tell him it's the Professional Disc Golf Association and he remarks, "I always wanted to play that."  So the bargaining began.  We ended up giving him discs, hats, and our course directory and he was on his way to Miami.

I sat in on the PDGA Board meeting and I have to say, there are people trying so let's keep hope. My concern is player activity.  Every new PDGA player is maybe 10 new players, I encourage you to give away your old magazines, old discs (or even your new ones).  I figure if all the PDGA members could get 1 new person interested then the possibilities are endless.
