Worm on Birmingham It was B-tier time and B'ham was in need of lots of touring players to show up for their tax tourney in Birmingham, Alabama. The tournament was to be held at one of my favorite courses in Alabama, George Ward Park, a medium length course with great elevation for Alabama and a beautiful setting. We would play 2 rounds at George Ward and 2 more rounds at a new course designed on an old ball golf course which included a 1400 foot monster. The tournament consisted of players like Ron Russell, the winnicrew, Flying Eye team - Cam Todd, etc, etc. So from the looks of it this was going to be a very strong field for a small B-tier event. We were lucky enough to have Ryan Renz as a friend and he let us stay in his hotel room for the weekend. Thank you, Ryan. I myself got to see some of my homeboys from Mobile and was glad to see everyone at the tournament. After the first round I managed to grab the lead with many people close behind. The second round consisted of Ron shooting the course record to take the lead as I fell to the second card going into Sunday. The lead card for Sunday would include Ron, Todd Branch, and Cam. On Sunday we played the former ball golf course and I shot a 48 that morning to bump me to the lead card. Going into the last round it was Ron and Todd tied for the lead, I was two back, and Cam was 5 back. Ron ended up winning by one followed up by Todd, myself, and Cam. The final 9 featured us same 4 players playing skins, all of the skins ($25 per hole) carried and we split the money. It was a good time on two nice courses. |
